About Games Like 2048
Games Like 2048 is for players who keep a 2048 tab open and want something new that scratches the same itch. 2048 sits in a large family, from Threes! before it to the merge apps after it, and much of what turns up when you search for alternatives is the same game under a new name. This guide sorts out which games are genuinely different and how close each one comes.
Who runs this site
Games Like 2048 is made by the team behind Gamefinity, a site of free games that start in a second in your browser. We write and check every page here ourselves.
Not affiliated with 2048 or Gabriele Cirulli. We name 2048 only to say what this guide compares against, and we link to 2048 itself so you can always play the original.
How we pick and test games
We judged each game by the things that make a 2048 run satisfying: merging equal pieces into bigger ones, a board whose free space you have to protect, time to think with no clock, and a run that lasts as long as you play well. We read each maker's own description, rules and prices, and noted what each game shares with 2048 and what it does differently. Three of the picks are Gamefinity games; they are marked, rated on the same scale and described with their weaknesses.
Every game on the guide was opened on its maker's own site (or its official store page) on the date shown beside it, where we confirmed that it exists, what it is, what it costs and where it runs. We write what it is, why it is like 2048 and what is different in our own words. We take no payment or free copies for a place on the list, and nothing here is an ad. When a game changes, closes or starts charging, we update or remove it.
Our own games on the list
3 of the 14 picks (Merge 2048, Block Fit, Exactly) are games we make. They carry a "Made by us · Gamefinity" label everywhere they appear, their Play links go to gamefinity.io, and they get the same rating scale as everything else. We only include one of ours where it is a fair answer to "what should I play if I like 2048?", and we say what it does worse as well as what it does well.
How the ratings work
Ratings are ours, out of 5, in halves. They rate each game as a pick for someone who likes 2048: how close the fun is, how well it plays on a phone and a computer, how fair its price or ads are, and how much of it there is. They are not review scores collected from anywhere else.
Corrections
If something here is out of date, such as a price, a closed game or a new mode, tell us through the contact details in the Gamefinity privacy policy and we will fix it. The privacy notice for this site is on its own privacy page.
