Number games for 2048 fans

Five of our free games where the numbers do the work: merged, slid back into order, combined into a target or placed by logic.

Merge 2048 cover art: Merge 2048: two 32 tiles merge into a glowing 64 in front of a brass clock face, with 2, 4, 8 and 16 tiles around them.Exactly cover art: Six number cards, 25, 50, 75, 100, 3 and 6, with red, blue, yellow and green sign blocks on a classroom desk.Slide Snap cover art: A 4 × 4 sliding puzzle of warm white tiles printed with a bold rainbow, the last corner piece dropping into its slot on a blue table.Sudoku Sprint cover art: A 6×6 sudoku of carved stone tiles in a raked-sand zen garden, its last tile a glowing 5.

Half the pull of 2048 is the numbers themselves: 2s and 4s doubling their way up toward four digits while you add up in your head what each swipe could make. These five games of ours all put numbers at the centre, but each one uses them differently, so the sections below group them by what the numbers do. All of them are free on Gamefinity and work on phones and computers alike, straight from the browser.

Numbers you combine

2048 rules plus a gold ×2 tile

Merge 2048

2048's own doubling, on the same 4×4 board with no clock. A label under the clock always shows the next tile you are working toward, the first of each pays a bonus, and past 2048 every new bonus is double the one before.

Daily make-the-target maths

Exactly

Combine any two of six cards with + − × ÷ and they become one card holding the result, until one card equals the target. Three targets a day, the same for everyone, with a minute on each.

Numbered tiles you slide

Numbered sliding-tile puzzle

Slide Snap

Fifteen numbered tiles and one gap on the 4×4 board, moved by swipe, tap or arrow key until each is back where it belongs. A counter compares your moves with the fewest possible, and a run is a set of pictures on a two-minute clock.

Numbers you place by logic

Mini sudokus on a clock

Sudoku Sprint

Fill 6×6 grids so that every row, column and 2×3 box holds 1 to 6 once, grid after grid, winning back time for each one you solve. Every grid has a single solution that logic alone can reach.

Stitch

Here the numbers are clues: the counts along the edges give the length of every stitched run in each line, and the finished grid becomes an embroidered motif. Three fresh hoops every game.

How much time you get

Only Merge 2048 shares 2048's lack of a clock: you can stop and think for as long as you like, and the game lasts until no move is left. Stitch is the next calmest, since a set may run as long as 20 minutes and you can pause it, though your time counts toward the result. Exactly gives each target a minute and carries saved seconds into the next one, Sudoku Sprint starts at two minutes and adds time for every grid you solve, and Slide Snap is a race against a two-minute clock.

Questions

Which number game here is closest to 2048?

Merge 2048, which uses 2048's own rules on the same 4×4 board and adds a gold ×2 tile and milestone bonuses. Of the others, Exactly comes nearest in spirit, because its basic move turns two numbers into one.

Is there a daily number puzzle among them?

Yes, Exactly. A new set of three targets opens every day at midnight Eastern Time, the same for everyone, and you get one go at it. The other four can be played as often as you like.
